Instead of Chasing Conspiracies

We can focus on becoming sources of light and decency
1

If you’ve ever noticed and pointed out something that could be inconvenient to those in power, you’ve likely been slapped with the label of “conspiracy theorist.”

And that’s if the the person doing the labeling is trying to be polite.

Their goal is to shut us up and cast doubt on us in the eyes of others.

Still, there’s no shortage of people who spend a great deal of their time trying to uncover and expose those who prefer to work in darkness and secrecy.

There are two important things to remember when it comes to chasing conspiracies:

  1. We are squandering valuable productive time and moral energy.

  2. Simply knowing who is doing evil deeds in secret isn’t enough to change anything.

The people who are doing the greatest evil in our day are doing it openly. And they’re backed by standing armies and massive propaganda machines to legitimize their actions.

Paul Rosenberg poses the question:

So, if finding the hidden bad guys doesn’t work, and if we still want an ethical world to live in, what are we to do?”

The answer is to use our time and energy to create the things that make the world a better place right where we are.

This could include raising a loving family, helping your neighbor and striving to be a source of light and decency to every person you meet.

Evil comes into the world through our weaknesses.

Becoming a person of strong character matters more than we think.
