One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is the gift of not caring about what other people think about us.
This is not the same thing as not caring about other people.
It’s a recognition that what other people think of us is none of our business.
Once we’ve embraced this truth, we can stop putting on a show for whomever may happen to be watching and we can get down to the actual business of becoming the best version of ourselves.
Individuals who choose to base their self worth and identity on the feedback they’re getting from others around them tend to be at the mercy of what the crowd considers fashionable and acceptable at the moment.
On the other hand, people who don’t spend their time worrying about what everyone else thinks, are free from the need for another hit of acceptance to make them feel like they matter.
This keeps us in a mindset of approval seeking that ends up giving others power and influence over us.
Moving with the crowd will always feel safer but the pathway to personal greatness requires a willingness to break with the crowd and to navigate our own path.
When we stop pursuing status and start focusing on getting our own act together, that’s when the magic happens.
We learn how to trust our own judgement and conscience over whatever the crowd happens to be saying or doing.
