One of the smartest things we can do to refine our sense of purpose and direction in life is to write out a personal platform.
Unlike a political platform that seeks to create popular support, our personal platform is about having a clear understanding of our core ideals and why we hold them.
It begins with an honest assessment of who we are.
This is not synonymous with what we do for a living or how we think others perceive us.
It’s a matter of zeroing in on what we do well enough that it feels as though we were born to do it.
The second part of our personal platform includes the core principles by which we choose to live our lives, whether these principles are popular or not.
These are the things for which we’d sacrifice other pleasing pastimes in order to make room for them in our lives.
Our personal platform should also clarify our most deeply held principles which we’re not willing to compromise.
This is something we must approach with some caution.
It’s important that these values don’t define us by who our enemies are or what we fear.
Finally, our platform should include the core message that we proclaim daily to everyone around us in our words, our actions and how we live our lives.
A personal platform serves as your own road map to your destiny.
Best of all, the only approval required is your own.
